Ash Hill School, High Wycombe
January 2025

This year, thanks to the generosity of Marsh & Micklefield big local we are working with Ash Hill School.
At Ash Hill we have work to do to renovate their growing space, replacing the timber edges of the beds to make them safe for the children to use.
Community Volunteering Day
April 2025

On the 10th and 11th April we spent a couple of days with staff and volunteers improving the school's growing space ready for lessons to begin in May.

We repaired growing beds, weeded and put down manure and planted flowers to attract pollinators. It is great to see the space transforming.

First School session
May 2025

After working with volunteers to repair the raised beds, we held our first school session in May. It was fantastic to see the children enjoying their growing space again.
Together we planted broccoli, cabbage and kohlrabi, with some geraniums, nasturtium, calendula and marigold to help ward off slugs and snails and to attract the aphids away from the seedlings.

Lesson Two
June 2025

In June year 2 had the opportunity to explore and spend time in their new garden.

Lesson Three
July 2025
Next it was the turn of year one - who knew weeding could be so fun!

Lesson Four
October 2025

Returning in the Autumn we joined the new children in Year 1 for a lovely session harvesting potatoes and planting garlic and broad beans in the last raised bed.
Lesson Five
November 2025

For our last lesson the weather was cold, so after a quick session in the garden to weed and plant some winter onion sets, we returned to the warm, with an indoor activity, planting bulbs in pots for the children to take home. The children were so excited!
